Bridges Workshop

John McClure is organizing an CSTEP-sponsored workshop at UTEP June 27-28 for professional engineers. The title is “Current Bridge Building and Bridge Failures: Ethical Choices and Public Policy.” Invited speakers include Dr. Ken White, New Mexico State University and Mr. Ray McCabe, Senior Vice President of HNTB, New York. Joe Cardenas, the Vice-Chairman of the Texas Board of Professional Engineers, has been advising us on how to make this workshop a success.

This is the first in a planned series of annual workshops that will be sponsored by CSTEP. These workshops will target the needs of professional engineers for more advanced training about the ethical implications of technological issues in the engineering field. Since these workshops will engage working engineers and experts in the field on specific and topical engineering issues, it is the hope of Fellows of CSTEP that the work of the institute will remain timely and relevant. Such topics include assessing the technical factors and policy issues involved in events such as the Minnesota Bridge collapse—a focus of the upcoming CSTEP workshop.
